Medicare Savings Programs
Alabama has programs for people with limited income and resources that pay some
or all of Medicare's premiums. Some programs may also pay Medicare deductibles and
coinsurance.
To be eligible for the Medicare Savings Programs, you must:*
- Be eligible for Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance),
- Be living in Alabama,
- Be a U.S. citizen, or
- Be in satisfactory immigration status (You must provide proof of immigrant status),
- Have a monthly income below a certain limit.
Call your state medical assistance office (1-800-362-1504) and ask for information
on Medicare Savings Programs.*
There are four Medicare Savings Programs:
- Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB)
- Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB)
- Qualifying Individual (QI)
- Qualified Disabled & Working Individuals (QDWI)
Listed below are income qualifications for the Medicare Savings Plan.
**NOTE: The income and resource limits below may change in 2011.
Please note that there are Income Requirements to qualify for QMB, SLMB,
and QI.
