There's a new lane in the Information Superhighway for insurance licensees.
Effective September 29, 2008, the Alabama Department of Insurance has partnered
with State Based Systems (SBS) to streamline the insurance licensing and
continuing education processes.
All license and continuing education functions will be managed through SBS and
the National Insurance Producer Registry instead of the former AIIMS system. So
when you click on the link below to begin your licensing process, it will have
a new look to it. What is the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR)? It
is an affiliate of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, which
developed NIPR’s producer database to create a central location to link state
insurance departments with the entities they regulate.
Does it sound confusing? Don’t be afraid. The process will
guide you through the steps necessary to gain your initial license, renew a
license, obtain a temporary license or any other licensing function regulated
by the Department of Insurance.
Licensees have the choice of the free SBS system, known as SBS Connect, which
allows producers to print one license free of charge, or the SBS premium
service, known as SBS/OLS (Online Services) which allows licensees a number of
new functions to better monitor their license and continuing education credits.
There are some important changes regardless of the level of service you
choose:
