One person was killed this afternoon when fire destroyed their home located in the 2000 block of Evergreen Road.

Gussie Hudson, age 88, died when fire destroyed her single-wide mobile home around 12:59 PM.  The home had already fallen in by the time the West Blocton Volunteer Fire Department received the call and arrived at the scene.

At this time the fire and death are under investigation by the West Blocton Police Department and Alabama State Fire Marshals Office.  An autopsy is scheduled by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

Investigators have determined the fire originated in a bedroom, but have not yet determined exactly how the fire began.  The victim was found between the living room and kitchen.  Family members say no smoke detectors were in the home at the time of the fire.
