One Jasper Resident Dies in Fire

No Smoke Detectors in Home

Jasper resident, Tammie Jane Estes, age 42, of 2206  12th Avenue in Jasper, died this morning during a fire in her one story wood frame home.

The Jasper Police Department received a call reporting the fire at 4:05 A.M..  Firefighters from the Jasper Fire Department found Ms. Estes in the kitchen of her burning home.  No one else was at the house at the time of the fire.

Investigators with the Jasper Fire and Police Departments and the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office say the cause of the fire and death remain under investigation, and that the fire did originate in a bedroom.  An autopsy has been scheduled with the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.  Investigators also say there were no smoke detectors in the home, which was recently renovated.
