A fire that destroyed a Marshall County church last weekend has been determined to be intentionally set, State Fire Marshal Ed Paulk said Tuesday.

"We were not initially notified of the fire, but once our deputies were on the scene, our investigation leads us to be believe that this fire was intentional," Paulk said.

The Covenant Life International Church, located between Boaz and Douglas on Alabama Highway 168, was destroyed.

A criminal investigation is underway.
