A house fire Wednesday morning (11/11) has claimed the life of an elderly Pickens County resident and injured her grandson. The Sapp Volunteer Fire Department and the Pickensville Volunteer fire department responded to the call on Martin Luther King Road in Sapp (rural Pickens County) at approximately 8:00 a.m. yesterday (11/11).  The owner of the home 72 year old Rosie Mae Taylor was found dead on her bedroom floor.  Her fourteen year old grandson received treatment for smoke inhalation and minor cuts and scrapes. Ms Taylor was well known in the tight knit community as a local nursing home attendant and the fire drew a large crowd of some 200 sympathetic onlookers.  The Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office reports that the fire appears to be  an accidental kitchen fire and foul play is not suspected at this time, however,  Ms. Taylor’s body has been transported to Montgomery for an autopsy and the investigation continues.
