Four children were killed and three adults were injured this morning when fire destroyed their mobile home in St. Clair County.

Four children, whose names and ages have not yet been determined, were killed when fire destroyed a mobile home at 300 Carmichael Drive in Riverside. In addition, two adults were critically injured and a third less seriously injured in the fire.

The cause and circumstances of the fire are currently under investigation by local agencies and the State Fire Marshals Office, however, all indication at this time point to an accidental cause.

Investigators have learned that a fire occurred in the mobile home approximately three hours prior to the fatal fire. This fire occurred when a light, hanging from the ceiling, fell on to a couch. The occupants of the home removed portions of the couch and believed that the fire was extinguished. It now appears that the fire may have continued to smolder until discovery at the second time.
