Two Hueytown residents died Tuesday night during a fire at 5800 Warrior River Road; Hueytown. Lorene Cash and her son Bobby Loy Cash died in the fire at Mr. Cash’s home.

An investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Concord Fire Department, Jefferson County Medical Examiners Office and the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office indicates the fire started while Mr. Cash was sitting in his wheel chair apparently smoking. It is believed Mrs. Cash, who lived next door at 5792 Warrior River Road, received a telephone call from her son reporting the fire. Mrs. Cash rushed to her son’s home and the fire department received a call reporting the fire soon afterward.

Mr. Cash was found on the floor with his mother nearby. Mrs. Cash was apparently trying to rescue her son when they were both overcome by smoke. No smoke detectors were found in the house during investigation.
