Two people died early Monday morning during a fire at a mobile home at 176 Highway 216 Montevallo.  Gartha M. Burnett age 64 and her 30 year old grandson, Allen Wayne Burnett, Jr., died during the fire.  Marvin Green Burnett age 67, husband of Gartha Burnett, was injured.  Marvin Burnett is being treated at University of Alabama Birmingham Burn Center for burns to 80% of his body.

The fire was discovered around 1:19 AM by a paper delivery man who notified a neighbor.  The neighbor in turn notified the Montevallo Police Department and Shelby County 911.  The home, a single wide mobile home with an add-on, was destroyed during the fire.

The fire and deaths are currently under investigation by the Montevallo Fire and Police Departments, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Shelby County Coroner’s Office, Alabama Liquefied Petroleum Gas Board and the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office.

At the present time the cause of the fire has not been determined.  No smoke detectors were reportedly in the home at the time of the fire.
