One man was charged with Arson Second Degree and Assault Monday evening following a fire at his home. Michael Douglas Boyd, age 45, was charged after he set fire to a mobile home he and his estranged had occupied at 2096 Young’s Mill Road. He and his wife have been separated for approximately three weeks. The fire was reported at 3:15 PM.
Boyd attempted to avoid capture by running to his mother’s home after setting fire to the doublewide mobile home. A standoff ensued and officers fired two shots as a diversion. Boyd was taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported in the fire or standoff.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Alabama State Fire Marshals Office continue working the investigation.
