Local and state investigators continue their investigation of the fire which destroyed Fairhope Mayor James Nix’s car and damaged his garage, however, all indications at this time suggest the cause of the fire to be accidental.

The late afternoon Monday fire at 415 Myrtle Street in Fairhope occurred after the mayor parked his car in the garage and entered his home. Several minutes later a popping sound was heard and upon investigation the car was found to be on fire. The fire spread to the garage. No injuries were reported.

Investigators from the Fairhope Fire and Police Departments, as well as the State Fire Marshals Office, are continuing their investigation in an effort to identify the specific cause for the fire.
