Thirty-four-year-old Dawn R. Huguley died this morning during a fire at her home in Lee County.

Mrs. Huguley’s husband discovered the fire, at 324 Lee County Road 201 in Salem. Mr. Huguley told fire investigators that at least one smoke alarm was present in the home, however, he was uncertain whether it was operable or not.

The fire, initially believed to have originated in the area of the kitchen stove, destroyed the couple’s one story wood frame home. The specific cause of the fire and death is currently under investigation by local authorities and the State Fire Marshals Office. An autopsy is scheduled by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

Salem Volunteer Fire Department initially responded to the fire and was assisted by the Ladonia and Crawford Volunteer Fire Departments.
