Lee County Man Arrested on First-Degree Arson Charges

A Lee County man was arrested Sunday and on charges that he allegedly set fire to a house where his ex-wife and her 16-year-old son were inside.

Terry Mott Sr. was charged with first-degree arson in connection with the fire at the home, which was located on Lee County Road 2000 in Smiths.

The fire occurred Saturday afternoon. The occupants escaped without injury. Mott was arrested in Gwinnett County, Ga., and is being held there pending extradition. Bail has yet to be set. The Lee County Sheriff's Department and the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office worked on the investigation.

In other State Fire Marshals Office news, the fire at Maple Springs Baptist Church in Chilton County remains under investigation, but a cause of the fire has yet to be determined as the Fire Marshals Office is still awaiting forensic test results.
