One man was killed Saturday morning when fire destroyed his home in Letohatchee.

Forty-four year old David Orville Walsh of 102 Brown Street was killed around 5:00 A.M. April 8th. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, however, investigators have found nothing suspicious thus far.

An autopsy was scheduled by the Alabama Department of Forsenic Sciences.

Fire departments in Lowndes County have been working for several months to install free smoke alarms in residences throughout the county.

The State Fire Marshals Office reminds everyone that this is another example of the need for smoke alarms as they play a vital role in reducing the number of fire injuries and deaths.
